Spent .44 Calibre Casing

This woodburning on weathered reclaimed lumber has some old west history that is loaded with provenance. The 1873 Winchester was one of the most famous of the Winchester rifles. The 44-40 caliber was the first center-fire cartridge manufactured by Winchester. At the back of the ranch is a remote timbered area where, with the use of a metal detector, I discovered this shell casing that is now lodged into the woodburning. The casing was twelve to eighteen inches down in the ground. It has laid undisturbed for many years.
